The UTSA has prepared a tool kit that is intended to assist in conducting a Job Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment of tasks in order to:
- Identify potential hazards in the laundry; and
- Assess the risks associated with these potential hazards.
This tool kit can be downloaded here.
Conducting a Job Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment is the first step in the elimination of potential hazards in the workplace. After identification and assessment of potential hazards using the Job Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment tool, each workplace organization will need to evaluate and address each identified potential hazard or the condition that might give rise to a potential hazard.
Use of this Job Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment tool is not required or compelled by law. An employer may be in full compliance with all applicable federal and state health and safety regulations without using this tool. However, use of this tool or an equivalent process, will help to ensure that an employer is taking a proactive approach to injury prevention. Completion of a Job Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment using this tool also will facilitate consistent identification of potential work hazards throughout the commercial/industrial laundry industry. It will also streamline the process of selecting techniques to abate identified potential hazards.
